The sun was high in the sky, shining down on everyone and anyone who resided within Nashua. Four paws moved forwards moving one in front of the other rhythmically. It was sometime around noon, though the strays were able to tell this without the need for a clock or watch or cell phone. No, they used the position of the sun to tell them what the time of day was. It was summer, nearing the end but still the hot temperatures remained with them and probably would even with the change of the season. Fringe ran his pink tongue across his chapped lips moving forward one step at a time. He was looking for shade from the dreadful summer heat which had been pestering him all day. He was near the heart of the city trying to find somewhere that he could be alone. Up ahead he saw a park, empty and abandoned with no humans or strays inside. He trotted up the sidewalk, his feet dragging across the warm concrete. His orbs were squinted shut trying to protect his delicate eyes from the strong sun. There were a few trees scattered here and there, though none seemed to be the best solution for the male. Still, he was hot and tired, hungry and thirsty and just needed a place to relax. So he managed to make his way to the closest three and leaned his weight against the trunk, slowly sliding downwards until he was laying across the cool blades of grass. He breathed out a sigh of relief. This was much better.
Fringe allowed his eyelids to droop over his eyes, a yawn escaping his white muzzle. He lowered his cranium and placed it on his paws, fighting the battle to stay awake though losing misribly. He had not even realized he had fallen asleep until he bad been abruptly awoken by the sprinklers in the park going off. His head jolted upwards and he jumped to his feet, feeling the icy cold liquid penetrate through his thick coat. At first he did not like the sensation, but after standing there for a moment the cool liquid was helping him cool off. He remained where he stood allowing the droplets to hit his coat, then walking forwards to find the source of the water. A small black stick as jutting from the ground, and water was spewing from a hole carved into it. He parted his jaws and lowered his head so his mouth was at the opening, drinking the liquid as it came upwards. Now he was no longer hot or thirsty, but he was still hungry and a bit tired from all of the sun he had taken in. After a minute or so the black stick shut off, the water no longer coming out of it and it sunk in a bit deeper into the ground. Fringe looked down at it and growled softly to himself, pawing at it hoping it would pop back up and continue to cool him down. But he was well aware hoping that something would occur would never actually make it happen, and there was no point in trying.
The white male turned away from the sprinkler and tilted his dial up towards the sky. The sun had barely moved, only sinking a bit lower in the sky. He then allowed his deep brown optics to scan the terrain looking for someone, anyone who might also be present. But alas he was alone. He sighed, not because he was disappointed but just because he felt the need to. He moved onwards towards a playground left abandon. The swings swayed back and forth in the breeze, the grains of sand in the sandbox kicking up and hitting the edges of the wood frame holding it in. Everything was to tranquil until he had arrived to penetrate the silence. He walked around the perimeter of the playground not bothering to find a way over the fence and inside. There was a basketball court and two baseball diamonds, neither of which he wanted to explore. But since the basketball court was closer, he went over there. His pads were warmed by the asphault and he noticed a basketball laying in the middle of the court. He walked over to it and pawed it, watching it roll towards the hoop and tap the metal pole holding it up. He then made his way over to the bench at the sidelines and sat under it, trying to hide from the sun as best he could, though his damp coat still helped keep him dry. Once again his placed his head on his paws, waiting for something, anything to happen.
