Takoda’s mind was racing a mile a minute. He knew that the bulldog was in danger, and unless Dezzi or he ran to save her she was likely to be captured by the human. The male shifted his attention to Dezzi who was still in disbelief that she had just been saved from receiving a bullet to the heart. He cracked a weak smile, realizing that he had indeed saved Dezzi, despite the fact that his own shoulder had been injured. “Yeah, I guess I did,” he mused aloud, a smile crossing his mug for just a moment before he remembered that the bulldog still needed their help. He could have run, and should have run, but he could never live with himself if he knew Dezzi had been hurt and he could have done something to prevent it. “I don’t want you to get hurt Dezzi,” he told her sternly, imagining what would have happened if he had run rather than dove to save Dezzi from the bullet. Even if he had run the Cethin female would still have been left behind, and fleeing those in need of assistance was not in Takoda’s nature. Andor members were brave and bold in the face of danger, and in this case it was the dog catcher who was presenting a threat. Takoda had to help however he could, and if that meant putting his own life at risk than so be it.
Dezzi was quick to step out and flash her canines toward the dog catcher, but Takoda knew it was going to take more than intimidation to cause this man to back down. His chocolate pools fell upon the bulldog at the opposite side of the hall. She was not about to give up without a fight, for she quickly lunged forward and dug her fangs into the flesh of the man’s shins. He roared in pain as blood pooled at his feet, his socks stained crimson from his own life juices. She hung on for a few moments, sinking her dentures deeper and deeper into skin, creating a dent which would take much time to heal completely. Takoda was anticipating the female to retreat as soon as her attack had been made, but instead she stood back and waited for the bullet which was to come. Takoda’s expression softened, a look of terror crossing his face. What was the female doing?! She had the chance to escape, and she was not taking advantage of it. “Get out of there!” Takoda called, but he knew he was wasting his breath. Cethin members were stubborn dogs, dogs who would not listen to the advise of an outsider. If his predictions were right the female would take another bullet to the flesh and embrace the pain she was inflicted with, flirting with danger for as long as she could until reality set in and slapped her in the face.
The sound of a gunshot seemed to become a natural call in the prison, to the point where Takoda almost didn’t flinch when the sound echoed in his harks. The bulldog almost missed the bullet, but unfortunately it managed to strike her in the left hip, causing blood to bubble out of the flesh. She emitted a whimper of pain as her body tumbled to the floor, her attempt to dodge the bullet failed. She fought until the last breath, until she blacked out in a heap, the catcher’s net embracing her. “No!” Takoda called out, sprinting toward the bulldog, ignoring the bullet to his shoulder. It wasn’t until he was directly behind the catcher that he realized the mistake he had made. The human turned to face him, a smile slowly crossing his leathery lips. “Uh oh,” Takoda muttered under his breath, quickly spinning on his heel to escape from another bullet aimed his way. He attempted to make it back to Dezzi in time, but his sprint forward was ceased as a bullet lodged itself into his left rear thigh. Tumbling to the ground, he fell in a heap where he awaited the same fate as the bulldog before him, pleading with his eyes for mercy.[/blockquote]

TAKODA x DEZZI x KEVLAR THREAD (post #2)

Had Takoda known what was going to take place in the prison, he wouldn’t have explored its depths in the first place. Upon entering the Cethin territory he was unaware of the bulldog’s presence in the halls, or that Dezzi would suddenly appear after a human attempted to capture them. Now here he was, blood seeping from a bullet wound, wondering whether he would be successful in escaping the prison, or if he would find himself locked up in a kennel for the second time in his life. But the human didn’t go after the stabyhound – not yet, anyways. Instead his target was the bulldog, passed out on the floor, blood spewing from her collection of injuries. In a single motion he had her dangling in his net, her eyes closed, her coat caked in blood. The human struggled to keep the female in the air, her body still dripping with life juices which landed on the prison floor with eerie plops. He fixated his eyes on the fallen hound, debating on whether he could bring Takoda out to his truck too, or if he would have to make a second trip. For a moment the two were locked in a stalemate, their eyes locked, neither living being moving. It was do or die right now, for the human knew that it was unlikely that he could carry two dogs to his van successfully without losing one along the way. His cold eyes narrowed, his muscles tensing, his arm still matted with dried blood. For a few moments, time remained frozen.
It wasn’t until Dezzi raced to Takoda’s side that the human broke away from the duo’s staring contest. He took his captive and fled from the prison, hoping to deposit her in the van before coming to take back the two dogs he had left behind. Takoda and Dezzi didn’t have much time, but they had to take advantage of the opportunity they had. The stabyhound lifted his chocolate tainted optics, meeting Dezzi in the eye. For a moment no words were exchanged between them, the collie’s single word filling the void between them. She knew just as well as Takoda that they were not in a good position. In time it was Takoda who broke the accumulated silence. “We have to get out of here,” he explained, testing weight on his injured limbs. He attempted to take a step forward, but a jolt of pain shot up his rear limb, causing his legs to give out on him. He collapsed as a heap on the floor, blood splattering in all directions. He groaned as he attempted to fight through the pain, failing at his attempts. He tried a second time to remain standing, but with two bullets lodged into his flesh he knew it was impossible for him to flee on his own.
“Dezzi you have to get out of here,” Takoda explained, his stomach still pressed against the ground. He was too weak to elevate his body from the concrete, so he remained situated in a puddle of his own life juices, each of his four limbs spread out in an eagle position. “Follow this hallway to the back stairway, there you can descend to the bottom floor and sneak out the back door. If you plan your timing right you can slip out of here without any Cethin members spying you, or the dog catcher.” He stole a glance behind his shoulder, listening to the faint sound of footsteps in the distance. He could tell the catcher was on his way back to retrieve the second dog he had shot, hoping to bring back two dogs to the pound humans had created. The thought of what would happen to him while he was in captivity was nearly unbearable, but Takoda could never live with himself if he knew Dezzi was caught too due to his selfishness. “Hurry, go!” he pleaded, flinching as a pulse of pain took over his shoulder. He would be captured, but at least one innocent life would be spared tonight.[/blockquote]

[blockquote][blockquote]
“Stupid cold,” Takoda muttered under his breath, a cloud of transparent air appearing before his maw before dispersing in the blink of an eye. It was winter, and though the season was drawing toward a close, it was still as cold as ever. A sheet of ice still covered the sidewalks, a dusting of snow from the previous night making it even more of a challenge to keep traction on the slick surface. Each step forward had to be carefully calculated, otherwise one would be faced with a mouth full of snow and limbs extended in all directions. All Takoda wanted was a territory to use as shelter from the harsh winds nipping at his cheeks and tugging at his cloak, but the further he walked the more he distanced himself from any possible shelter. He was not anywhere near Andor lands, though after his previous fight for leadership he didn’t have much interest in spending time on his pack’s grounds. He could almost hear the taunts he would receive, despite the fact that he was miles away from the nearest Andor location. “Look over there,” he could almost hear one say, his cheeks radiating with embarrassment. “See that dog over there? The black and white one? He lost to our current leader. Badly.” He closed his eyes and shoved the thought as far away from his mind as possible, though it continued to haunt him, the fly in his ear which never quite flew away.
A sigh escaped the stabyhound’s maw, leading to the appearance of another cloud of breath appearing in front of his face. He had no where to go, no one to turn to, and his heart was only sinking deeper in his chest. He glanced at the entrance of the subway station with no interest, doubting that entering its depths would be beneficial for him. It would provide shelter from the cold winter winds, but the grounds were claimed by the Cethin pack. What if one of the pack members was down within its depths, waiting for an unsuspecting victim to enter the black hole of death? Still, it was still shelter, something Takoda was in desperate need of. He shifted his route and headed towards the entrance of the station, his chocolate pools darting from left to right. Was someone watching him? Did they know who he was? Would they punish him for merely considering to enter Cethin grounds? It came to the point where he just didn’t give a damn anymore, so when he ceased his trot at the first step of the station he couldn’t think of a single reason why he shouldn’t continue forward. “Oh what he hell,” he murmured, taking the first step down into the darkness, a cool chill racing across his pad as his mitt made contact with the cold concrete. He had already started his journey, so there was no reason why he should stop now.
It was cold at the bottom of the staircase, a set of florescent bulbs acting as the only source of light in the station. Takoda tentatively moved forward, waiting for someone to jump out and scare him, though finding no canines during his surveys. He reached the ticket booth and the turn styles and passed them without hesitation, for who did he have to pay for his entrance? Humans hadn’t used this place in years, perhaps even decades. He wandered down a labyrinth of tunnels before finding one of the subway stops. A few abandoned train cars resided on the tracks, their doors left ajar for anyone to enter. Newspapers were scattered across the waiting areas, some folded neatly on the benches for those who were interested in yesterday’s news. Trash was overflowing from the cans on either end of the stop, one of which had been tipped over by a human in a rush to depart from the station. Takoda passed by the papers without a second thought and entered the first train car, peering inside tentatively to make sure he was alone. When no other canines came to view he cantered over to the seats, and with a swift movement hopped up onto one. Turning his body twice, he settled onto a combination of two seats as he curled his body into a tight ball, prepared to take a nap and warm up his chilled figure from the cold. [/blockquote]

[blockquote][blockquote]
Takoda couldn’t sleep, no matter how hard he tried. He tossed and turned while perched on the train car’s seat, struggling to make himself comfortable but failing at his attempts. Eventually the stabyhound gave up his attempts, emitting a sigh as he lay his chin on the tops of his paws. He was protected from a harsh winter draft, but that didn’t mean the station wasn’t below freezing. Underground the temperatures felt ten degrees lower than up at the surface. The male curled into as tight a ball as possible, attempting to keep his body warm. No one else was in the station, or at least, to Takoda’s knowledge there wasn’t. It was almost dead silent in the subway, the distant sounds of the city preventing total silence from taking over. Takoda’s mind was racing, keeping himself from drifting into the sleep he desperately needed. His breath appeared before him each time he exhaled, a cloud of transparent air which soon disappeared as quickly as it appeared. What Takoda wanted was company, but considering that the station was apart of Cethin’s property he had a feeling that any canine he came across would be bad news. Using the shadows around him to conceal his figure, he awaited for sleep to finally come.
He wasn’t sure how much time had passed since he first entered, but soon the silence was broken by the sound of clicking nails against tile. Takoda opened his eyes and lifted his chin from his paws, harks pricked upright. He could catch the sound for only a few moments, until it ceased completely, only its echoes ringing in Takoda’s audits. His heart soon tripled its pace, thudding against his chest and threatening to tear through his flesh. Was this a Cethin dog who had entered the station? Were they going to punish Takoda for trespassing? He wasn’t sure what the answers were to his questions, but he was smart enough to know that just sitting around waiting for danger to come was not going to get him anywhere. Withdrawing a deep breath, the stabyhound rose to his feet before leaping back onto the main level of the train car. He took a few, tentative steps toward the train’s door, only a shadow of the canine visible on the other side. He attempted to peer out of the train’s windows, but they were so fogged up with dirt and dust it was impossible to make out the minute details of the opposing canine. There was only one way Takoda could figure out who had arrived, so he mustered his courage and entered the doorway.
The canine who met Takoda’s eye was far from threatening. He appeared to be young of age, much younger than Takoda himself. He was a basset hound, though he didn’t appear to be purebred. His ears were so long they skimmed the tiles at his feet, threatening to trip the hound with a single misstep. His eyes were closed, as if he were absorbed in his own little world. If this was the dangerous Cethin stereotype, the pack was losing its touch. “Erm, hello there,” Takoda called out, departing from the train car and taking a few paces toward the newest arrival. “Are you a member of Cethin?” he inquired, praying that the answer he would receive would be a “no.” The last thing he wanted to do was deal with a physical conflict, especially after his previous brawl with the new Andor leader. Takoda paused his gait forward, waiting for the first male to respond to his words. He parted his jaws in preparation to ask another question, but held his tongue. Once he figured out whether the dog was in Cethin or not he would work from there, but until then he could only hope that he was not putting his life in jeopardy.[/blockquote]

[blockquote][blockquote]
There, he had said it; confessed the truth he had been trying to conceal for so long. Felicity had been patient with him, not pushing him to spit it out or to stop beating around the bush. He wanted to glance up and see her reaction to his news, but he lacked the strength to open his eyes and turn his head in her direction. Somehow he had a feeling that he didn’t want to see the disappointment or other emotion inscribed to her features, fearful that she would want to terminate their friendship if she discovered he was no longer the powerful leader he had once been. He could hear her shift her weight into a standing position, the floorboards at her feet creaking as she shifted her body. He felt a whimper threaten to escape his throat. Was Felicity going to just walk away after hearing the news, without saying a word? But instead she moved closer to him, ceasing the existing gap between them. Takoda mustered enough energy to open his eyes, watching as Felicity craned her head to meet his gaze. He lifted his head slightly, his eyes glassed over with hope. She was not going to leave him? A weak smile tugged at the corners of his maw, his tail thumping lightly against the hardwood floor. After all he had been through he was thankful to know that at least someone still accepted him for who he was.
Silence filled the void between them, an ominous clouds stretching throughout the clock tower walls. Takoda’s jaws fell agape, but he could not form words to pass his tongue. What could he say? He had already admitted the truth, and that seemed enough for the moment. He held Felicity’s gaze for a beat of silence until gravity pushed his chocolate spheres south. He waited for Felicity to speak again, hoping that she could build a foundation he could work off of. His smile returned at her next sentence, lyrics which warmed his heart. He was alive, and that was something to be thankful for. He could have easily been killed while fighting Spencer, a dog who was much younger and more agile than he. Add in the fact that he had been challenged a couple weeks earlier with injuries which had yet to become fully healed and it was a miracle that he was still alive. “I guess that’s true,” he confessed, pawing at a loose floorboard at his feet. “But I came pretty close to losing it,” he admitted, a flashback of Spencer’s snapping jaws aimed toward his face causing him to recoil as a flinch. It would be a while until his title as a commoner felt like his own once more, as well as for his body to heal back to its original state. But he started as a commoner when Andor first began, so he was confident he could resume holding the position again.
The reminder of what Damien had done to Felicity caused Takoda’s blood to turn cold, his smile quickly fading. “Damien,” he repeated, the name sounding harsh on his tongue. “No, I didn’t run into him thankfully,” he stated, recalling the first time he had run into Felicity, when she was covered in injuries from head to toe. “I made you a promise not to go after him,” he told her, turning to meet her warm gaze, “and I don’t break my promises.” He turned his head toward the door, watching as a gust of wind caused it to rock back and forth on its hinges. He withdrew a deep breath, exhaling it slowly, as if all his worries could melt away with ease. “Just be careful, okay?” he inquired, waiting a moment before looking back at Felicity, worrying of what could happen if she ran into another dog like Damien. “I don’t want you to get hurt again, and there’s a lot more dogs like Damien wandering these streets.” It wasn’t much of his place to give Felicity advise to avoid confrontations, considering the amount of wounds he had accumulated over the past few weeks. But he would never forgive himself if one of his friends had been hurt and he wasn’t there to help, especially after how forgiving she had been about Takoda losing his title.[/blockquote]

[blockquote][blockquote]
Takoda felt bad as he witnessed a wave of guilt flood over Felicity’s features. He hadn’t meant to accuse her of calling him a promise breaker, but he could see how she would have interpreted it to be that way. Her gaze retreated to her paws, her lyrics tumbling over one another until her sentence broke off completely, silence filling the air where words had once resided. Takoda looked up at the border collie mix, but she did not turn to meet his gaze. “It’s okay Felicity, I know what you meant, there’s no need to get upset” he explained to her, offering up a weak smile in exchange for one of her own. “I know you weren’t trying to be offensive, don’t worry about it. You’re being too hard on yourself.” Keeping his word was one of the qualities Takoda prided himself on, refusing to go back on something he had told another. He wanted to show Damien that he couldn’t go around harming dogs as innocent as Felicity, but that would mean breaking his word. One day he would find the dog, and when he did he would make sure he was taught the lesson reality had yet to demonstrate. Until then he was forced to walk along the same streets the opposing male did, wondering when the day would arrive that he could redeem Felicity.
A black and white paw traced the edge of a nail jutting out of the floorboards, its cool metal top acting as a cold contract to the decaying floor boards. Takoda didn’t even know what Damien looked like, let alone how to find him without searching for him. But his thoughts on the subject were interrupted when his name was called out into the open, no words directly following the note. He turned his eyes toward Felicity, waiting for the female to finish her sentence. He could tell she had a question on her mind, one which was bound to make Takoda uncomfortable, judging by the small silence which filled the void between them. The question was bound to come up eventually, but that didn’t make Takoda more prepared to answer it. In reality he only needed to say one word, so why was it so challenging to force the word passed his lips. Felicity would find out one way or another who challenged Takoda for leadership, whether Takoda was the first to tell her or someone else on the streets wouldn’t make a difference. His chocolate pools lay on the collie femme for a fraction of a second before darting down toward his paws, skimming the outlines of the floorboards. He could almost see Spencer’s silhouette in the cracks, the new owner of these lands, the male who had removed them from Takoda’s custody in the blink of an eye, without a single warning uttered.
“No, I don’t mind you asking,” he confessed to Felicity, exhaling a deep sigh at the conclusion of his sentence. He struggled to find the energy to look back up at her, but fighting against the power of gravity proved too difficult of a challenge. “I don’t know much about him, considering he wasn’t a member of Andor prior to the challenge.” The thought of an outsider taking over his lands caused Takoda’s previous meal to threaten to climb up his esophagus. Had it been a member who had been in the pack for a while who had challenged Takoda it wouldn’t have been as worrisome for said canine to take over. When a perfect stranger came along and suddenly wanted to know what it felt like to hold a lot of power, well, that was another story all in itself. “His name is Spencer,” Takoda admitted, attention still at the floor. “Not sure if you’d know of him, he seemed rather young.” He wondered what Spencer was doing right now: was he at the lighthouse where the brawl had taken place? Was he exploring the other grounds which belonged to Andor, that were now his own? Did he have Andor’s best intentions at heart, or was he merely a power hungry canine who was looking for an outlet to release his desires? Takoda didn’t know, but he wasn’t sure whether he wanted to learn the truth or be shielded by illusions.[/blockquote]

[blockquote][blockquote]
Ivory paws made their way across the shores of Cascaro, prints left behind in the sand as the only evidence that a canine had even been present. Ocean waves extended their reach and grazed the male’s digits, tainting his toes with a salty aroma. A cool spring breeze ruffled his coat and grazed his cheeks, filling his nostrils with the ocean’s scent. He turned his head up toward the sun, squinting his eyes as he made out its faint silhouette. He allowed the warm rays to embrace his coat and warm his cooled body, happily acknowledging spring’s presence where winter had once dominated. Seagulls twirled in neat little circles, scavenging for human scraps and leftovers which may have been forgotten in the sand. Takoda had been down the coastline a thousand times, memorizing the twists and curves of the shore like the back of his paw. In the distance he could see his destination: Andor’s pier. It was still a good distance off, leaving Takoda time to be lost in his thoughts, musing over his past few experiences. The collection of injuries Spencer had given him were slowly diminishing in size, scars sewing the gap between his skin which were soon concealed by his long, bi-colored cloak. He could walk without a limp and without battling jolts of pain up his shoulder, an accomplishment he prided himself with. He had lost his Andor title, but there was thing else – or someone else, rather – that he wasn’t willing to give up as easily.
Just the thought of Kira caused Takoda’s heart to flutter with excitement. Their last encounter hadn’t gone as planned, but even so, he was still dying to see her. It seemed like forever since he had last lay his copper eyes on her ebony coat or heard the soft accent coating her lyrics. He gazed longingly at the approaching dock, wondering whether his old friend would reside within one of the shacks or storage areas lining its edges. It was unlikely that she would be there after all; with dozens of different territories in the city as well as its outskirts, what were the chances that the shepherd would be at the dock? But it was one of Andor’s territories, meaning Takoda had a one in four chance at picking the correct location of the canine he coveted to find. He watched as the distance between he and his destination dwindled from miles to meters, until he was in a full-fledged sprint toward the dock’s beginning, kicking up sand in his wake. He ignored the sharp shells piercing through his tender pads and the seaweed which tangled at his feet, his mind set on reaching his goal. As soon as his paws hit wood he slowed his movement forward, tentatively moving across the decaying wood which made up the pier. He had been on the Andor territory before, and was wise enough to know that a single misstep could cause one to fall to the sandy shores below, a distance which could easily cause a bone to break.
There were countless sheds which could act as shelter to a canine, meaning Takoda had a lot of searching to do if he had any chance at finding Kira. He zig-zagging from one side of the dock to the other, peering into each building and surveying its contents for the black silhouette of a Belgian sheepdog. “Kira?” he would whisper, listening to the sound of his voice echo back at him, slapping him across the face to state that Kira was not present.
