Quin had never been a fan of the nightlife. She hated the lack of sunlight and the predators lurking behind every corner. She hated constantly stealing glances behind her shoulder to make sure she was not being followed or having the feeling of watching on egg shells. But when she could not fall asleep due to the intense winter cold, she was forced to seek out new shelter. It was not an easy task considering she had no idea where she was or where she wanted to go. She wandered down the streets blindly, hoping that by some miracle a territory would appear before her to provide warmth and shelter. But she was a stray and she did not have that kind of luxury. She was lucky to find any sort of food or to find a cardboard box to camp out in for the night. Her heart was beating a mile a minute, though it was rare to see it beating at a slower pace. She was shivering due to both the cold and intense fear of what might be lurking around the corner. She inhaled sharp intakes of breath only to exhale them in choppy exhales. She was over two years old, yet she still felt as if she were her three-month-old self struggling for survival on her own without the assistance of others.
In a way Quin wasn’t completely alone. She had Andor yes, but a pack could only do you so much good. And she had friends, but they also had lives of their own. She lacked family though, all four of her siblings gone and her parents always absent from her life. She didn’t want someone constantly holding her hand, but having some sort of a backup plan was always nice. She rounded a street corner and continued on her way, swimming in an ocean of her own thoughts. Above her street lights flickered with the little life they had remaining. A car alarm could be heard in the distance, the ones which seemed to be singing some sort of song rather than having the sound of the horn honking played over and over. The snow seemed thicker than usual, giving Quin an unusual amount of trouble making her way forward. She didn’t hate winter, just wished it didn’t last so long. The cold was not exactly encouraging either, making her life ten times more difficult. Why someone could actually choose to live where the temperatures dip below zero and ten feet of snow piles the street was beyond her. But Cascaro was her home, the place where she was raised and the only city she knew. So with a sigh she continued her stride forward – however difficult it as – and prayed for the best.
The sound of the ocean was a tranquil melody even in the heart of winter. The call of gulls was absent of course due to the season, but the constant sound of waves caressing the sandy shores was always a sound she found soothing. It was a unique sight to see the beach covered in a dusting of snow while the ocean remained unfrozen. Why did the ocean remain alive while lakes and ponds and rivers froze over for the winter? Quin was uncertain why this was, though doubted any dog could give her the answer. She cantered across the frozen sand, the snow holding the imprints of her tiny paws. Glancing to the left Quin saw a strange cave which she had never noticed before. A set of paw prints led to its mouth, though they came from different directions indicating they were not a pair. Curious, Quin followed one of the sets of tracks. She reached the mouth of the cove but hesitated to enter. Who knew what kind of dogs were in there, or what they would do to an intruder? Was this a pack’s turf or open for anyone to enter? She was so confused by the new packs in the city she was uncertain of just about anything at this point. But the cold winter winds were numbing her cheeks and her limbs were on the point of giving out on her, so she swallowed hard and resumed her canter into the mouth of the cove.[/blockquote]

[blockquote][blockquote]
Darkness was nearly the only thing Quin could see, only faint outlines of rocks and the twists and turns of the cave visible. She kept her dial low, her footsteps slow, her harks pricked upright. The sound of her talons clicking against the cave floor echoed down the labyrinth of tunnels and rang in her audits. Did the set of paw prints she had seen outside the cave lead to a canine, or had they been imprinted by a dog days ago? With the cold temperatures outside, would it be possible for the sane to hold its shape for that long? Quin didn’t know, but she was already deep inside the cave, so she might as well continue forward. Broken shell were scattered across the ground, sharp shards jabbing into Quin’s tender pads. She hadn’t made it too far into the cave when the sound of a voice reached her ears. She paused her movement forward, squinting her eyes, trying to make out a figure in the distance. But all remained still, so the merle collie continued forward. It’s going to be okay, it’s going to be okay, Quin told herself over and over, as if the repetition of these words would convince her that they were the truth.
The sound of two words nearly scared Quin to death. She yelped in surprise, leaped back a step, ducked her head instinctively in anticipation for a blow to the head. A few beat of silence passed, but Quin did not receive the attack she was waiting for. Tentatively she elevated her skull, her mismatched eyes meeting a set barely visible in the darkness. After another moment of silence, Quin swallowed hard to untangle the knot which had developed in her throat before speaking. “I-it’s just me,” she stammered, her skin crawling against her body. She had no idea who this female was, or if she had good intentions. She could easily be a Cethin canine ready to make her first attack, preparing herself to take Quin’s life with a swift snap of her jowls. “I was just looking for some shelter,” Quin continued, trying to keep her voice strong, though failing with her attempts. Could the canine she was speaking to see her trembling in the darkness? Could she tell that Quin was on the verge of sprinting in the opposite direction in hopes of escaping death’s doorstep? Quin had never been successful at keeping her emotions a secret, and now was no exception.
Attempting to make herself somewhat respectable after her sudden entrance, Quin kept the silence from accumulating. She withdrew a slow breath, trying to map out what she was going to say before the lyrics left her lips in hopes of making up for her previous yelp. “I ran into this place and didn’t think it belonged to anyone. Though it probably belongs to a pack.” She glanced around her surroundings, trying to make out some of the objects laying on the floor. With only one good eye it was a struggle to decipher what anything was, and with a cloak of darkness Quin couldn’t tell whether the canine she had met was playing her for a fool or someone who was in the same situation as her. “But anyways, my name is Quin.” She hinged on asking what the opposing female’s name was, but she refrained. If the female wanted to tell her than so be it, but she didn’t want to make enemies if she didn’t have to. She glanced down at her paws fiddling with a broken shell laying at her feet, waiting for the female to say something before Quin continued to ramble about topics the female did not care for.[/blockquote]

[blockquote][blockquote]
If there was anything worse than hot weather it was high humidity. Though it was only spring the air surrounding the swampy grounds seemed so high Quin found it a miracle that she was still alive. Each step forward resulted in a mud-covered limb, her merle coat tainted brown. Even the softest sound caused Quin’s heart to skip a beat, such as the rustling of tree branches above or the croak of a bullfrog. She knew the grounds she was wandering were claimed by Hecate, but she couldn’t help but feel as if she was being watched by an outside force. Her bi-colored spheres flickered left and right, scanning the surround area cautiously. She would have felt safer had she been surrounded by pack members, or if she knew the origin of the path of footprints she just happened to be following. She bit down on her lower lip, forcing her limbs to move forward despite their desperate cries for her to stop. She ceased her canter forward, stealing a glance over her shoulder to see how far she had come. A path of paw steps could be seen weaving through the tree limbs, the entrance of the swamp so far in the distance that Quin knew it would be pointless to turn around and attempt to find it. She had no idea what was at the center of the swampy area, whether it was nothing but a muddy pool of water or something more fascinating, but she had come too far to stop her journey now.
Rays of sunlight peaked through the gaps between the tree tops, shimmering beams of yellow down into the forest Quin was exploring. Parallel lines were painted across the ground, exposing the muddy terrain making up the Hecate property. Quin’s tongue lolled out form the side of her mouth as she panted heavily, struggling to keep her body from overheating. There wasn’t much vegetation in the swamp, for few plants could survive in the constantly moist area. There was hardly any wildlife, meaning there were few sources of food for the femme to take advantage of. A few times the collie would trip over a large rock or overgrown tree root, resulting in a layer of mud to coat her chest and chin. “Darn it,” she muttered after her third fall, her chin sore from slamming into a large stone. Slowly she pulled hersel back onto all fours, her chin tingling with pain. She kicked at the ground, sending a trail of mud to splatter across the grounds she had been hiking across. “Why did Hecate claim this land anyways,” she mused to herself softly, turning forward and resuming her trot forward, hoping that she would come across something soon before she discovered that her trek forward had been for nothing.
It wasn’t long before Quin’s movement forward ceased, her eyes widening. It wasn’t a fall which stopped her this time, but the vision of another canine in the distance, following the same path she had been tracing. She didn’t recognize the canine, and even from a distance the merle collie could tell that the canine was not a member of Hecate. She took a tentative step forward, wondering what the best route to take was. Did she turn and avoid the oncoming dog, or did she confront the outsider on Hecate property? Soon she didn’t have a chance to pick an answer, for a the gap between the two dogs lessened the opposing canine looked up, their two gazes uniting. Knowing that there was nothing else she could do, Quin cantered up toward the outsider, trying her best to put on a strong façade. “Hello there,” she stated, her voice soft and nearly lost as a gust of wind grazed her coat. Clearing her throat, she tried a second time to stay strong. “I’m not sure if you know this, but uh, this is Hecate territory.” She could almost sense her own voice wavering, her ability to keep it strong failing. But she had a duty to her pack to defend their grounds, and she would do her best to make her pack proud.[/blockquote]

[blockquote][blockquote]
The opposing female’s talons dug deep into the muddy soil, her own body caked in a layer of grime. At first she didn’t appear to hear Quin’s words, her mouth remaining shut with a fine line separating her lips, her eyes racing along Quin’s merle cloak. The collie flinched under the female’s intense gaze, her skin burning wherever the set of eyes landed. Quin wasn’t one to enjoy conflict with others, especially when they looked like the dog she had come across. She wasn’t sure whether it was just her nerves or the ominous swampy surroundings around her, but she was sensing bad vibes from the dog she had discovered on Hecate property. She avoided the female’s eyes, turning her bi-colored spheres toward the ground, watching as the earth appeared to be swallowing her limbs whole. Collies weren’t large dogs, meaning Quin’s body was quickly lost in the muddy liquid. She pawed at the ground, swishing around the thick concoction, studying the various objects which had been absorbed into the ground: broken leaves, small stones, a few twigs which had broken off of tree limbs. The collie did whatever she could to avoid the opposing female’s gaze, waiting for her company to speak before Quin’s innards exploded from the pressure accumulating within her.
A sentence penetrated the silence, causing a wave of relief to flood across Quin’s features. Tentatively she forced her mismatched eyes to look up at the canine she had discovered, studying her company’s face. She still held no emotion, aggravation if anything at all. Her voice was verminous, her lyrics glazed with a harsh tone. Quin wasn’t sure whether she hadn’t heard Quin’s previous remarks or if she ignored them completely, but either way she sensed that it was best not to repeat herself. The female she faced was much larger than the tiny puppy-like figure Quin resembled. Her sharp dentures were visible behind her leathery kissers, pointed dagger-like nails hidden beneath the blanket of mud at her feet. She could tear Quin apart limb-by-limb if the urge hit her without a struggle, and with no Hecate members around to defend the collie it was best if she tried to stay on the intruder’s good side. She had a duty to defend Hecate, but she couldn’t do that if she wasn’t alive to begin with. Instead she forced a weak smile across her lips, trying to remain as innocent as possible. If she could show that she wasn’t a threat, maybe she would be able to escape the female’s wrath and find help before she could flee from the swamp.
Quin’s jaws fell agape, but no sound escaped from her vocal cords. Her throat was tied up in a knot, restricting sound from emitting from her vocals. She cleared her throat before stuttering with a single word. “Quin,” she spat out like a bad tasting object, her cheeks radiating with heat the moment the word left her lips. Clearing her throat, she tried again. “My name’s Quin,” she repeated, struggling to keep her voice from wavering. Rocking from side to side, she continued with words to keep silence from building up once more. “So, uh, what brings you to the swamp on this fine day?” she murmured, glancing around the forest. “Well, I guess it isn’t a beautiful day. Or at least, not here where it’s all muddy and ...” Quin stopped herself, her harks pulled back against her skull. When she was nervous she had a habit of rambling on about things others did not care about. She fixated her attention back to her feet, her limbs trembling. After a beat she stole a look up at her company, anticipating the look of anger to be embedded across the female’s emotions.[/blockquote]

[blockquote][blockquote]
Quin blinked. She had never heard of the name ‘Harlequin’ before, though she had never asked her mother for the origin of her name. For all she knew she could be named after this unknown character; her mother never gave her the answers to the questions she had. Even if she had asked it was unlikely she would get a straight answer anyways. “Uhm, sure?” she stated, shaking her head and adding more to her statement. “I mean, yeah, Harlequin. T-that’s who I’m named after.” She nodded, emphasizing her point, sweating bullets. Who knew what kind of dog this Harlequin character was like, but hopefully the odds would be in Quin’s favor that Harlequin wasn’t some sort of serial killer roaming the streets. She’d hate to be named after someone who didn’t have pure and honest intentions, someone like the father she had never met, or the mother who abandoned her when she needed her most. Pushing her thoughts away, she returned her focus on the female in front of her, reminding herself that letting her mind wander was not the best idea under these circumstances.
At first Quin ate up her string of lies, nodding after every few moments to signal that she was paying attention. There was nothing wrong with taking a stroll, and it was understandable that she lost her way while listening to the symphony of bird calls in the sky. It wasn’t until her last few words that the merle collie caught on that the female wasn’t telling the truth, causing her brow to furrow. “That’s not very funny,” she murmured under her breath, angered that she had fallen for the female’s tactics. She was surprised with the brutal honesty which followed her blatant lie, for the female soon confessed that she was a Cethin spy snooping around Hecate territory to get the dirt on the group. Quin’s heart sank to her stomach. A Cethin spy? On Hecate property? She never thought she would run into this situation, so she was uncertain what it was she was supposed to do. Did she run back to her leader Anubis? Did she try to take down the trespasser herself? Did she issue a warning, or take drastic action against the canine? She doubted she could win against a Cethin female, especially one as powerful as the one before her. “Oh ...” was all she was able to say, left for a lack of words to follow the single lyric.
The collie was nervous that the female was going to terminate her life, but she appeared to have other plans. She introduced herself as Minerva, a name which suited her well. She also confessed that she wasn’t interested in bringing Quin back to Cethin, a confession which caused Quin to exhale a sigh of relief. She was safe. For now. She glanced around her surroundings, wondering why she was here in the first place. “I got lost,” she admitted, harks still cemented to the back of her skull. “I thought there was more here, but I guess it’s just swamp. Not very interesting.” She tried to find the strength Minerva commanded her to find, but it was buried deep within her. How could she let a Cethin dog stand on Hecate property! She took a step forward, trying to be the dominant femme. “B-but, you are not allowed here, miss,” she spat, puffing her chest out. “As a member of Hecate I command you to depart from our grounds immediately ... or–else.” Just the sound of her own voice made Quin feel embarrassed. She knew the stunt she was trying to pull off would be unsuccessful, but at least now she was putting some sort of effort forward.[/blockquote]

[blockquote][blockquote]
Quin braced herself for contact, but she was only met with the wind of the attacking dog’s wake. The collie cracked open her good eye, realizing that her merle look-alike who had been in front of her moments before had departed from her perch, her imprinted in the snow and kicked up dirt the only evidence that anyone had even been standing in the area. Quickly the female snapped her attention to the side, watching as one merle collie’s jaws snapped in attempt to grab the flesh of the other. She was met with nothing but air however, her fangs missing their target by inches. Quin wanted to help the female, but she was uncertain what to do. If she tried to strike at the female who was attacking it was likely that Quin would become her new target, and pain was something Quin couldn’t handle. She had never been in a fight, and did not want to have her record fall today. “Stop it!” she pleaded, her voice cracking halfway through her sentence. She had searched for another canine to help the first merle collie, not to use her as a shield to protect herself from the demon-like dog she had found in the pumpkin patch. Guilt hit Quin like a bag of bricks, but her paws were still rooted to the ground, preventing her from moving forward.
The attacking female landed on the snow with a soft crunch, her eyes flashing with anger due to her missed strike. Snarls were exchanged by either side, preventing a void of silence from taking over the battlefield. The collie Quin had received for help crouched closer to the ground, muttering something about how it was not polite to attack two dogs who had come to help her. But the damage had been done, and Quin could already tell that the merle collie she had found first in the pumpkin patch was not going to give up the brawl until her victims lay dead. “I don’t think she is going to stop!” Quin yelped, panic glazed over her lyrics. She took a pace forward, then two paces back. A soft whimper escaped her vocal cords, though it was concealed by the growl which bubbled from the attacked collie’s throat. She wanted to run off and get help, but she could recall that the last time she had done that it hadn’t turned out the way she had planned. Still, show owed it to the collie who was being attacked to at least attempt to free her from the opposing female’s grasp, even if it meant putting her own life at risk.
The demon who had taken over the female who had once been in desperate need of help was angered that her target had been missed, and was determined to redeem herself with a canine who was not as likely to dodge an oncoming assault. She turned to face Quin slowly, as if the hands had time had been slowed down for a single second. In the blink of an eye a multicolored blur lunged toward Quin, jaws agape and talons exposed. Quin only had time to blink before she felt fangs weave into the flesh of the side of her throat, accumulated momentum pushing Quin to the ground. She landed with a sot thud into the snow, an imprint of her body left behind as she attempted to flee from her attacker’s grip. “Let me go!”Quin squeaked, thrashing to escape the grip which only tightened with her struggle. Warm blood oozed up from the punctured flesh, tainting the once ivory snow a shade of crimson. Pain took over her body, preventing her from escaping from the demon’s clamped canines. She looked up at the female who had first escaped the demon’s attack, pleading with her eyes for help. A soft whimper escaped her vocals as she closed her eyes, turned away, attempted to embrace the pain which was engulfing her body.[/blockquote]

[blockquote][blockquote]
Quin was nearly at the wood’s beginning when Venice’s words brought her to a halt. Extending all four paws in front of her, she skidded across the slick snow’s surface just before the woods began. Her talons dug deep into the snow, aiding in her stop and fighting the lack of friction the ice created. She turned to face the large Akita as soon as her movement forward ceased, a smile still playing off of her lips. “Sorry, I just got excited,” she confessed, tail quickly swishing behind her, kicking up the loose snow. She had never had an escort to Hecate property; someone who would look out for her and make sure no one harmed her while on her journey. Venice’s presence was great, but add in the fact that he was easily one hundred and fifty pounds of pure muscle and it doubled Quin’s protection. She couldn’t imagine very many dogs who would want to pick a fight with her when she had a large male by her side, keeping the eye out for her that she herself couldn’t hold. Smile still broad across her kissers, banner still racing behind her, Quin waited for her new friend to catch up to her, so their journey back to the Hecate headquarters could resume. It was a long journey, but it wouldn’t be as hard as long as they had each other.
A moment passed before Venice trotted after Quin, closing the gap which lingered between them in a blink of an eye. His large limbs caused him to move forward quickly, three of Quin’s steps matching one of his own. Once he reached her a quick bark escaped his vocals, a soft nip to Quin’s shoulder acting as a playful gesture before he sprinted ahead of the merle colle, into the long stretch of woods presented before them. Quin giggled as Venice appeared as just a blur ahead of her before scrambling to keep traction on the snow. “I agree with you there,” she called after him before tracing his footsteps in the snow, her paws hardly comparable to his massive mitts. Keeping up with the large Akita proved to be a challenge, for his large limbs carried him much faster than Quin’s minute set. “Wait for me, Venice!” Quin yelped after him, giving her body an extra boost forward in hopes of catching up to the male before he got too far ahead of her. He was supposed to guide the way, but he wouldn’t be of much help to her if she could no longer see which turns he took and which path brought them back into the city. With Quin’s sense of direction she would easily get herself more lost rather than back to her pack’s land.
Whether Venice slowed down on his own or Quin managed to close the gap between them on her own she would never know, but soon she was back at the Akita’s heels, trotting obediently behind him like the puppy she truly was. Her mismatched eyes drifted to the sides of the path they were following, studying the shadows cast by the light of the moon above. “How long do you think it is going to take us to get to the mansion?” She inquired casually, her attention slowly drifting back to the male in front of her. Her movement forward slowed slightly as a realization crossed her mind. Cocking her dial to the head, she asked the question which had suddenly come to mind. “You do know how to get to the Old Mansion ... right?” Realizing her statement could be considered insulting, she quickly added more to her inquiry. “I mean, not that I expect you to not know how to get there. It’s just that we’re in the middle of no where and I’m not sure if you know where we are, since I don’t know where we are and ...” she cut herself off before she could embarrass herself further, her head wilting, cheeks radiating with heat.[/blockquote]

Quin was still struggling to overcome her embarrassment from asking Venice such a rude question when the Akita gave her his answer, anger not present in his tone. He knew that by following Quin’s scent he could locate the mansion, though it would easily take half the night to do so. A grin spread across his muzzle as he confided that he knew an easier way for the two of them to reach the property, a gesture which was soon mirrored across Quin’s own maw. She was relieved to know that he was not angry with her for asking her question, despite the fact that he had every right to be frustrated with her. Here he was, being kind to a puppy he happened to wander across, and in return she slapped him across the face with an insult to his intelligence. “Still, I shouldn’t have asked; that was very rude of me.” She forced her multicolored pools to remain fixated on the Akita, waiting for him to say something like “Yes, it was very rude of you to ask that.” But Venice was different from other dogs Quin had come across. Any dog who offered to escort a perfect stranger home clearly had good intentions, unless he was some sort of con artist pulling a scheme on a naïve femme he discovered in the woods alone at night, a thought that Quin could only pray was a figment of her imagination playing tricks on her.
Venice walked as if it were nothing. His large paws easily crushed twigs and small branches beneath his weight, while Quin struggled to climb over tree roots and to keep up with Venice’s fast pace. Not once did Venice pause his trot forward to make sure the duo were moving in the right direction. He continuously padded forward, directing the two to the wood’s edge. Before Quin knew it the trees were thinning, with an opening off in the distance. Venice glanced over his shoulder, his eyes falling to meet Quin’s own. Following his advice, Quin quickened her stride until she was at Venice’s side rather than following behind. “We’re almost there!” Quin chanted, stating the obvious that Venice was clearly already aware of. She grinned from ear to ear as the two moved toward the clearing, until their bodies were no longer embraced by the shadows of darkness. Moonlight raced along Quin’s merle coat, reflecting of her mismatched eyes and rough cloak. She no longer had to fear who might be watching her in the darkness, for she felt vulnerable knowing that anyone could be hiding behind a tree trunk of a rock, waiting for the opportune moment to strike. Now that she could see everything she exhaled a sigh of relief, happy to know that the two were one step closer to reaching their destination: the Old Mansion.
The Akita surveyed the grounds, keeping an eye out for possible threats waiting for the two to come too close. Once he was certain that they were alone he instructed for Quin to stay close to him, fearful that if she wandered off to far she would lose her life before she could register what was going on. It was a command Quin was more than willing to abide to, so she kept her pace fast to match his stride and scanned the grasses with a keen eye. “Stay close, got it,” she repeated to herself quietly, though loud enough for Venice to hear her words. She moved forward with determination to her step, proud to be residing next to a one hundred and fifty pound mass of muscle and fur. “Are you in any of the packs?” Quin inquired casually, trying to keep conversation going to help pass the time. Venice claimed that they were getting close, but it could still easily be hours before she saw the walls of the mansion approaching. “I mean, since you already know I’m a member of Hecate and all. I haven’t seen you around the pack’s lands, so I guess that means you’re not in Hecate.” That left Venice with three options: he was in either Cethin, Andor, or a loner. Quin didn’t care which of the three he was in, as long as he wasn’t a Cethin dog who was about to kill her before she truly had the opportunity to love.[/blockquote]

A smile tugged at Venice’s lips, inching from one corner of his maw to the other. He admitted that he was not a member of a pack, which didn’t come as a surprise to the merle collie. He didn’t have any pack scents on him, and he seemed to have the personality type of a Hecate dog, if he were to join a pack. He was far too kind to be in Cethin, though he did appear to be brave enough to join Andor. He mused aloud what pack life would be like, though the comment appeared to be directed to himself rather than an inquiry for Quin to answer. She looked at at the Akita with her single good eye, waiting for him to add to his remark. He remained lost in his thoughts, allowing a void of silence to fill the air. “I love being in a pack,” Quin confessed, hoping to penetrate the accumulating silence. “I mean, I can see how some dogs would rather be on his or her own, but I could never be without other dogs by my side. I need company; to know that someone will always be there for me.” She silenced herself before her rambling continued, realizing that Venice probably didn’t care about the thoughts of a young female who was a fifth his size and half his age. If he wasn’t in a pack there were reasons behind it, and Quin needed to keep her mouth quiet before she only encouraged his choice of a loner further.
She met his eyes as he spoke again, grinning at his words. Her smile weakened at his second remark, but its shadow remained etched across her maw. “I-I didn’t mean to wander off so far,” she stuttered, quickly going on the defensive for her actions. Her gaze retreated toward the moving earth, her pace slowing down. “I just wanted to explore our pack’s boundaries, and before I knew it I was miles away from the mansion and ...” She lifted her had only to realize that Venice was a good twenty feet ahead of her, his pace remaining constant as hers slowed down. Shaking her thoughts aside, the collie sprinted to catch up with her escort, pretending that she had not said a thing. She trusted Venice to bring her home, stepping into the footsteps he left behind. They passed buildings and crossed streets with ease, the moon and stars guiding their way. Quin had no idea where she was, but could only pray that the shortcut Venice claimed to know was bringing her to the mansion quicker than the route she had followed previously. He was much older and wiser than her after all, and was likely to know the city like the back of his paw. She followed him silently, lost in her own thoughts, watching as the world passed them by.
Before she knew it the mansion was in the distance, its outline glowing from the moon hanging behind it. She grinned from ear to ear as soon as it was presented before them, Venice proudly displaying it after claiming to have known the way. “I never should have doubted you,” she admitted, almost skipping toward the territory’s boundaries. It took her a moment to register that Venice had ceased his pace forward, his hackles lowered to the ground. Quin turned to face him, slowing her gait. He explained that he could not go any further, for he would then be trespassing on Hecate property. Quin had somehow clung to the illusion that he would come with her into the mansion, but she realized that her fantasy could never come true. “I see,” she muttered, disappointment glazing her lyrics, her head hanging low. “I can make it from here; I know the way,” she told him, turning to look at the mansion at the top of the hill. Somehow it appeared a lot further away than it had moments before. She nodded her head, promising Venice that she would try her best to remain out of trouble. “I’ll try,” she murmured, looking toward the mansion, then back at Venice. “I guess I’ll see you around then?” she asked, waiting a moment before turning and starting her canter toward her homeland. She took ten paces before stopping, stealing a glance over her shoulder at her knight in shinning armor. “Thanks,” she confessed, smiling, turning to face forward and finishing her ascension of the hill, being watched every step of the way.[/blockquote]
